Elizabethan Crime and Punishment Was Very Different From Our Own

Elizabethan crime and punishment was brutal There are not many more words that ca be used to describe Elizabethan crime and punishment other than cruel and perhaps horrific. Back in the time of Elizabethan crime and punishment any criminal was put to death, or just about anyway. Very few people did not get killed almost immediately. The only prisons that they had in the Elizabethan crime and punishment era were used as holding places. This is where the prisoners were kept until the times of their deaths. Incarceration was not something that was ever done as a punishment. It simply did not happen in Elizabethan crime and punishment times.

Instead if you broke the law you were put to death. And I am not talking about quick deaths, I am talking about slow and painful deaths. That is the way it was in the Elizabethan crime and punishment era. Back in the times of Elizabethan crime and punishment those who broke the law might be drawn and quartered. This is one of the most horrific acts of the Elizabethan crime and punishment era, perhaps of any era at all before or since the Elizabethan crime and punishment era as well.

In the Elizabethan crime and punishment era when you were drawn and quartered you were hung until you started to lose consciousness and then taken down. By the time they got you down off of the rope you would be wide-awake again but in the Elizabethan crime and punishment era they did not care. Then you would be laid out upon a slab with a fire in a pit near you. You were of course tied down to this slab. At this point your stomach would be cut open and your bowels cut from your body. The horror of this aspect of the Elizabethan crime and punishment era is that this did not kill you right away, you would live long enough to see the bowels get thrown into the fire.

This has got to be the most horrific aspect of the Elizabethan crime and punishment era by far. There is nothing worse than getting drawn and quartered and they did this to just about anyone. Back in the times of Elizabethan crime and punishment this horror was not only reserved for murderers, even robbers got tortured like this in Elizabethan crime and punishment times.
